Maricopa City Councilmember AnnaMarie Knorr is urging voters to support Proposition 416 and reject Proposition 320 in a letter to the editor published by InMaricopa.
Knorr, who described herself as an MUSD parent and former Governing Board member, said Proposition 416 would continue the district’s existing 10% maintenance and operations override. She wrote that the measure would renew funding MUSD already uses for smaller class sizes, RAM Academy and student technology.
According to Knorr, the renewal would provide about $7.8 million this year. She said that money helps the district maintain services students rely on, and without it the funding would phase out.
She also raised concerns about Proposition 320, which would require covered districts, including MUSD, to spend at least 60% of operating dollars on direct instruction, with the Arizona Auditor General determining what qualifies after voters approve the measure. Knorr said the proposal could shift budget decisions away from local families and elected leaders and offered no additional funding to meet the new requirement.
In her letter, Knorr said voters should be able to see clearly what counts under the proposal before making a decision. She ended by asking Maricopa residents to vote yes on Proposition 416 and no on Proposition 320.
