In a letter to the editor published by InMaricopa, a writer says Maricopa Unified School District followed through on the commitments it made when voters approved the override in 2016 and renewed it in 2021.
The letter says the district used the funding to maintain lower class sizes, keep classroom technology current and support RAM Academy, an alternative credit recovery program where about 60 students earn diplomas each year. It also says the investment helps MUSD keep strong teachers.
The writer argues that taxpayers should be able to see how the money was spent and whether the district delivered what it promised. According to the letter, MUSD did meet those expectations.
The piece also says the district must compete for students and teachers, and that strong schools matter to businesses considering Maricopa because they can help attract employers, support the local economy and protect property values. It says Proposition 416 would continue locally controlled funding already approved by voters.
