Loyle Carner took aim at J.K. Rowling, “toxic masculinity bullshit” and the far right during his performance at Reading Festival, according to NME.
The British-Guyanese rapper played the festival’s main stage, now known as The Grid, on August 30 ahead of sets from Role Model, Florence + The Machine and Chase & Status. Before performing “Horcrux,” he told the crowd the song was linked to Harry Potter, but said he did not really like the series’ author.
Later in the set, Carner spoke about his five-year-old son and said young people should be encouraged to develop emotional intelligence. He then introduced “Speed Of Plight” as a song “in direct opposition of the far right.”
At another point, he asked the audience to “make some noise for the NHS.” The song “Horcrux” appears on his 2024 album “Hopefully!,” which focused in part on his experience of parenthood.
