Man accused of stealing beer from Circle K after being banned from the store

Police arrested a 31-year-old Maricopa man after he was accused of stealing beer from a Circle K where he had already been banned, according to a probable cause statement cited by InMaricopa.

Officers responded to a shoplifting call shortly before 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Circle K at Honeycutt and Porter roads. Store employees reported seeing a man in a black sweatshirt leave with two beers bulging from his pockets.

According to the probable cause statement, an officer later identified the man in surveillance footage as David Vasquez, whom the officer had recognized from a welfare check earlier that day. The report also said Vasquez had been previously barred from the store.

Police said the surveillance video showed Vasquez taking items from shelves and putting them in his pockets before walking out. Officers found him west of the store about two hours later, and he reportedly admitted that he had walked into Circle K and stolen alcohol. The items were not recovered and were estimated to be worth $11.54.

Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and criminal trespassing and booked into Pinal County Jail. Police said he has had other recent arrests, including burglary on May 7 and shoplifting on Aug. 18.
