Maricopa residents are being told to prepare for more unsettled weather after a round of strong winds knocked down Halloween decorations in Rancho Mirage last week, according to InMaricopa.
One local family, Nico and Christopher Villalpando, said a neighbor called to let them know their decorations had been blown loose and were rattling down the street after the windy night. The family usually goes all out for Halloween, including a pumpkin patch in the side yard for neighborhood kids, but the recent weather has made them rethink how much to leave outside.
Last Friday’s wind was not tied to the monsoon, according to the report. Instead, National Weather Service meteorologist David Trampp said it was caused by differences in pressure from east to west.
A flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. today through 5 p.m. Thursday, with showers becoming more likely through the week and peaking with up to a 60% chance tonight, according to InMaricopa. High temperatures are expected to stay in the low 90s, with overnight lows dropping into the low 70s.
Even with more rain and possible wind ahead, the Villalpandos said they plan to keep their decorations up after adding extra anchoring and sandbags. As Christopher Villalpando put it, “We can’t let these winds or rain win.”
