A Maricopa toddler will mark his second birthday with his first motorcycle ride, thanks to a group of local riders honoring his late father, according to InMaricopa.
Legacy Tappé was just a month old when his father, Dustin Tappé, died in a motorcycle crash on Dec. 2, 2024. His mother, Melody Tappé, said the motorcycle community has become a source of support for her family since the loss.
Melody said Dustin once held Legacy and told him, “You’re going to be my little legacy.” She said that moment helped inspire the child’s road name and the special birthday ride planned for him.
The ride is open to the Maricopa community, including people without motorcycles who want to show support. Riders will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maricopa Meadows Main Park, 45511 W. Honeycutt Ave., and are expected to leave around 11:30 a.m. They will ride briefly through the neighborhood before lining Barbara Lane so Legacy can take his first ride surrounded by motorcycles.
Melody also founded the In an Instant Tappe Foundation to help families coping with loss. The foundation plans to host the Dustin Michael Tappé Annual Memorial & Benefit Ride on Dec. 5.
