More than 100 participants took part in Saturday morning’s Family Fishing Derby at Pacana Park, according to InMaricopa. The event was part of Maricopa’s Stagecoach Days celebration.
The derby gave young anglers and their families a chance to fish and compete in five age groups. Organizers said the event brought back a familiar community tradition with a focus on friendly competition.
Maricopa brought the derby back last year as part of a broader effort to revive Stagecoach Days traditions that date to 1958. After a strong response, the fishing derby returned this year alongside another longtime favorite, the Salsa Festival.
A city spokesperson said reintroducing these events is meant to honor Maricopa’s history, reconnect longtime residents with old traditions and help create new memories for younger generations.
