Rainy weather did not keep families from showing up to Maricopa Pantry’s annual Trunk-or-Treat event at Raceway Bar and Grill on Papago Road, according to InMaricopa.
The Halloween gathering came after the food bank served 1,714 families earlier in the day. Classic cars and buckets of candy filled the parking lot as children walked from car to car collecting treats.
One of the most popular stops was a Thunderbird Fire District fire engine parked at the end of the lot, decorated with a skeleton riding the ladder. The truck belongs to Captain Sam Ellis, who has been with the volunteer fire department since 2021.
Maricopa Pantry also sold hot dogs, chips and drinks for a $1 donation, with founders Jim and Alice Schoaf helping run the food stand. Families who attend each year said they come back to support the pantry, even if trick-or-treating means braving the rain.
